- From Petersburg, take RT 460 E to Wakefield. Turn right on St. Rt. 628 (Light with 7-11 on corner). Go 4.5 miles on Rt 628 and turn right on Rt 729 (There is a large 4-H Center sign at this intersection). Go 1 mile. Center entrance is on left.
- From Tidewater, take RT 460 W to Wakefield. Turn left on St. Rt. 628 (Light with 7-11 on corner). Go 4.5 miles on Rt 628 and turn right on Rt 729 (There is a large 4-H Center sign at this intersection). Go 1 mile. Center entrance is on left.
- Main Entrance
From The Peninsula Take Route 17 North to the Coleman Bridge - remember there is a $4 toll. Cross the bridge and continue on Route 17 North for about 13 miles you will see McDonalds and Wendy’s on the right continue to the 2nd stoplight (the intersection of Belroi Road and Bypass North 17) then turn right onto Belroi Road. Travel approximately 150 yards to a stop sign - turn right onto Main Street. Travel approximately 20 yards and turn left onto Roaring Springs Road - Beaverdam Park is at the end of this road - (approximately 2 to 2.5 miles).From Richmond From Interstate 64 East take Exit 220 - Route 33 - West Point Travel about 14 miles (you will cross 2 draw bridges) then turn right onto - Route 14 East Go about 6 miles to the stop sign then turn right onto - Route 17 South Go 7.9 miles to the 3rd stoplight and turn left onto - Route 17 Business This is Main Street, the first road on the left (approximately 300 yards) is Roaring Springs Road. Beaverdam Park is at the end of this road - (approximately 2 to 2.5 miles).
- Fary's Mill Road Entrance
From Richmond From Interstate 64 East take Exit 220 - Route 33 - West Point Travel about 14 miles (you will cross 2 draw bridges) then turn right onto - Route 14 East Go about 6 miles to the stop sign then turn right onto - Route 17 South Go about 5.5 miles to the stoplight at the intersection of Route 17, Fary's Mill Road (on left) & Ark Road (on right) - there is a Shell Station/convenience Store on the right. Turn left onto Fary's Mill Road, travel about 3 miles. You will cross a small bridge and the forest opens to a marsh area (you can see part of the lake on the right). - From Borderstation on HWY 168 travel South 16.8 miles then right on Maple Road (SR 1246), Currituck County Airport will be on the left, take the next left on Airport Road. Horse trailer parking is on the right.
Trails:Unknown total distance, but you can spend a couple of hours there. The trails are well marked with post/sign and are wide enough for side by side riding. The trails are mostly under trees except for the access road, which can be ridden on. Even with recent rain the trails are mostly dry.
- From southside Hampton Roads (Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Virginia Beach): Take I-64 East to 460 West. Take exit to Route 10 West (through Smithfield), approximately 15 miles. Make right on Alliance Road (Route 634). Park is four miles on left. Travel distance/time from Chesapeake is about 64mi or 1hour and 20 minutes.
- Notes: The park is on an honor system for day passes. Truck and Horse trailer passes are $2/3.00 depending on season. Please display your pass in your windshield. The park requires that you display a copy of your current coggins in your windshield when on park grounds.
- 460 W to Farmville. Take 2nd Farmville exit (Rt 15).
- At stop sign, take Right.
- Go thru downtown Farmville – will become Rt 45.
- Take Rt 45 to stop sign.
- Turn Right on Rt 60. Get in Left lane.
- About 3/10 mile, turn Left on Rt 628.
- At stop sign, go straight across into camping area at Cumberland State Forest Headquarters.
- Park in field.
- Take 17 south towards Elizabeth City. Make a right on 158 West (toward Sunbury). Continue on 158 West until you get to Weldon, NC, which is where you get on 95 South. Go to Exit 160 for Route 561. Go West on 561 for approximately 22 miles (there are a couple of turns but just keep following the 561 west signs). Goldmine is on the right side of the road. There is a wire fence with double gates in the middle, a cabin just beyond the gates and a 'Goldmine trails' sign out by the road.
- If driving from places that are far away from 17, Take 58 West to Emporia and get on 95 south. Go to Exit 160 for Route 561. Follow directions above.

- (Best) Take 168 Bypass to Hillcrest Parkway (exit 8). Exit on Hillcrest Parkway West (if you are Southbound on 168 this is the LAST exit before toll). Follow Hillcrest until you get to Edinburg Parkway and make a left on Edinburg (currently, Hillcrest dead ends at this junction). Follow Edinburg until you get to St Brides Road and make a left. Follow St Brides until you get to Sign Pine Rd and turn left on Sign Pine. Follow Sign Pine Rd until it dead ends, Greenbrier Nursery is on your right. You may park in the area around the Office and on the side of the road leading to the Nursery gate. Please do not block this road.
- (Alternate) From 168 Business (Battlefield Boulevard) go West on Benefit Road and then take a right on Sign Pine Road. Follow Sign Pine Road until it dead ends.
- From Chesapeake: Take I-64 East towards Suffolk. Take Exit 299 towards Routes I-664, 13, 58, 460, Bowers Hill, Suffolk, Newport News. At Bowers Hill, Take Exit 13 towards Suffolk, Routes 14, 58, and 460. Stay on Route 58, bypassing Suffolk. Continue through 4 stoplights and take Route 58 bypass around Holland. Take first "Paper Mill" exit (Route 189). At the Stop sign, turn left onto Route 189 "South Quay Rd" and go about 2 miles, then turn left on "Wyanoke Trail". (You will see a drwbridge sign, but do not cross bridge.
- Located in Buckingham County. From Tidewater: Take I-64 East towards Suffolk. Take Exit 299 towards Routes I-664, 13, 58, 460, Bowers Hill, Suffolk, Newport News.Take Route 460 to Appomattox. Go right on 26 North follow 26 North till you come to Route 60, cross over Route 60 and follow the signs to the park.
Maple Airport and Recreational Complex. ~ Located in Currituck County, NC.
- Take 168 south into NC and go south to intersection of 158 N or West toward Elizabeth City. There is a 7/11 on the right side at that intersection. Proceed west (right turn coming from VA) for a few miles and turn right into the Currituck Airport on Airport road (There will be a hang glider sitting at end of grass runway onto Airport Rd). The Park/Airport is about 30 minutes from the NC/VA border. Stop and Park at the Horse Trailer parking sign, about 100 yards down road. There is room for 4-6 trailers depending on trailer size.
- If You prefer to take Rt. 17 (vice Rt. 168) into NC. Take Rt. 17 south from Va. After passing into NC watch for Rest Area on the right. Shortly after Rest Area watch for signs for Rt. 343 - Alternate Rt. to Outer Banks. Take Rt. 343 (right exit off of Rt. 17) past South Mills and continue to Camden, about 10 miles (first stoplight on Rt. 343). Turn left on Rt. 34/158. Bear right at fork just after Belcross on Rt. 158 to Outer Banks (Rt. 34 goes left). Stay on Rt. 158 until you see signs for Currituck Airport. There will be an ad for Hang Gliding with an instructor to 2000 feet. Turn left just after hang glider sitting at end of grass runway onto Airport Rd. Northwest River Park in Chesapeake
Petersburg National Battlefield
- Continue on Route 168 (Battlefield Blvd.) about 15 miles to Indian Creek Road (about 5 miles south of Great Bridge by-pass). Turn left onto Indian Creek Rd. and travel approximately 5 miles to Northwest River Park entrance
- (From I-64/Battlefield Boulevard) Take I-64 towards Suffolk until you come to Exit 299 (Routes I-664/13/58/460/Bowers Hill/Suffolk/Newport News). You will pass the Hampton Roads Airport on your right. Pass the weigh scales. Stay on Route 58, bypassing Suffolk. At Bowers Hill, Take exit 13 (Suffolk/Routes 13/58/ and 460). Take 460 West (As you exit 58 and get on 460 there is a truckstop on your right which is sometimes used as a rendevous points for other riders.) Follow 460 for about 57 miles, through Disputanta proper prior to Petersburg proper. Once on Rt. 460 turn at stop light by Hardees Restaurant onto Hickory Hill Road. Follow Hickory Hill Road for only ¼ mile and turn left at Park Headquarters (1539 Hickory Hill Road). Follow signs to the parking area. To exit, proceed by the Ranger Station.
- Parking will be on grass, and shade trees will keep the horses and owners cooler in the summer months. A large turning circle allows for easy access in and out of the parking area. Visitors are requested, however, to not tie their horses to the trees for risk of tree damage.
- (From I-64/Battlefield Boulevard) Tke I64 towards Suffolk until you come to Exit 299 (Routes I-664/13/58/460/Bowers Hill/Suffolk/Newport News). You will pass the Hampton Roads Airport on your right. Take the first exit AFTER the truck weigh scales "13 South, 58 Business, 460 Business, Downtown Suffolk". This puts you on a devided highway. Go to the 5th stoplight and take a left onto Route 13 South. There is a McDonalds on the Corner. Stay on Route 13 into Ahoskie NC. Bear left onto Route 42. Follow Route 42 to a "SEAT" sign on the left side of the road. Look for a cream doublewide trailer, 3 rail white horse pen, large metal farm barn and equipment.
- (From I-64/Battlefield Boulevard) Tke I-64 towards Suffolk until you come to Exit 299 (Routes I-664/13/58/460/Bowers Hill/Suffolk/Newport News). At Bowers Hill, Take exit 13 (Suffolk/Routes 13/58/ and 460). You will pass the Hampton Roads Airport on your right. Pass the weigh scales. Stay on Route 58, bypassing Suffolk. Continue through 4 stoplights and take Route 58 Bypass around Holland. Take first "Paper Mill" exit (Route 189). At stop sign turn left onto Route 189, South Quay Rd. Go about 1 mile and turn Left on Gates Road - Route 666. Go to the Y, bear right onto Camp Pond Rd. Follow and turn right onto Cornith Chapel Road (gravel). Old cinder block store on corner.
- Location: From I-64, take the Croaker Exit 231B. Go north on Route 607 (Croaker Rd) for one mile, then right on Route 606 (Riverview Rd) (there is a CITGO station/Garetts Grocery on the left about 100ft before the turn onto 606. The 606 road sign is on the left side of the road.). Follow 606 about one and a half miles to the park entrance and take a left turn into the park. The Horse trailer parking is on the left, about 50 feet past the park entry kiosk.
- Notes: The park is on an honor system for day passes. Park passes are $1 weekdays/2.00 weekends. Please display your pass in your windshield. The park requires that you display a copy of your current coggins in your windshield when on park grounds.
- (From I-64/Battlefield Blvd) Proceed on I-64 towards Norfolk, Hampton, VA Beach. (for some people, using the I-664 Monitor/Merrimack bridge tunnel may be a better option to get to Hampton, especially during the summer tourists months.) Follow I-64 to Hampton/Newport News. Take the Jefferson Avenue Exit. At the bottom of the ramp, turn left (there is a stoplight) onto Jefferson Avenue. Take an IMMEDIATE right onto Ft Eustis Blvd (there is a stoplight and Newport News City park is on the corner). Continue down Ft Eustis Blvd to the end. (MCDonald on left) and make a left, at stoplight, onto US Route 17. Go past York High School. Turn right ontoGoosley Rd. Turn right on Cooke Road and bear to the right at the Y onto Surrender Road. Trailer parking is on the left.
